The Metropolitan Opera of Bangkok Performing Company was founded in December 2004 by the leading Thai coloratura soprano, Sophie Tanapura.   It was mainly created to provide performing opportunities for her own voice students.

Leading the cast will be Sophie Tanapura as Susanna, Piyawat Panthana as Figaro followed by Carole Boy Ferron as Countess Almaviva and Ittinat Seeboonruang as Count Almaviva.

Sophie Tanapura, known today as the founder of the Metropolitan Opera of Bangkok who sang the role of Annchen in Weber’s Der Freischutz, is the natural choice for the sprightly character of Susanna.

Since carrying the double roles of Kilian and Eremit in last year’s production of the Weber opera, Piyawat Panthana is branching out into his favorite area of comic baritone in the character of Figaro.

“Perhaps the only character who portrays credible real feelings is the Countess” is the way Carole BoyFerron sees the character she is playing, a character she has always wanted to interpret in a full opera production.

As for Ittinat Seeboonruang, following a year at the Opera Studio of Wittenberg College, he sees the role of Count Almaviva as a challenge he vows to conquer.

The rest of the cast is for a large part made up of singers educated by Sophie Tanapura at the Vocal Studio of The Metropolitan Opera of Bangkok.  Appearing as Cherubino will be Uma Paitoon, Siriwaranya Supranee as Marcellina, Sirichai Charoenkijthanakul as Don Basilio, Robert Hayden-Gilbert as Dr. Bartholo and Jonathan Truslow as Antonio, the gardener, Parkpoom Trongsiri as Don Curzio, and Greta Williams as Barbarina.  The chorus is composed of members from The Metropolitan Opera of Bangkok Vocal Studio and The Japanese Mixed Choir in Bangkok.
